President Ivan Gašparovič signed into law a bill to support renewable energy sources on July 13 and under this law energy companies that generate electrical energy from renewable sources will enjoy a price guarantee for fifteen years, the SITA newswire wrote.
“The bill removes the barrier of only a short guarantee of prices which caused low growth of electricity production from these resources,” said the Ministry of Economy, which prepared the legislation. The law becomes effective on August 1.
The Economy Ministry explained to SITA that the defined guarantee involves purchase prices set by the Regulatory Office for Network Industries (ÚRSO) and obligatory purchase of this energy for the electrical energy transmission grid.
“It is proposed that ÚRSO determines the price for electricity produced from renewable energy sources, by taking into consideration the type of the renewable energy source, the technology used, the date of launching of the facility and the installed capacity of the facility,” the ministry said.
An electricity producer based on renewable sources has the right to be favoured in connecting its facility to regional transmission networks. It will be given preference in connecting to transmission, distribution, and supply of electric energy regardless of the amount of output of its facility.
The Slovak president also signed into law a revised bill on the energy sector which provides that entities holding a license for doing business in the energy sector will no longer be obliged to notify owners that they will enter their land plots across which electricity lines pass or where facilities for transmission and distribution network stand.
