On March 29, Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič returned to parliament unsigned the amendment to the Bankruptcy Act that it had passed earlier this month.
The amendment is meant to simplify bankruptcy proceedings and make the process of bankruptcy easier, the Sme daily wrote. However, some critics have argued that it also provides space for speculators, and Gašparovič also cited this reason in his statement explaining why he had returned the amendment for further discussion to parliament.
The current parliament will have just one more session, in May, and it is considered unlikely that it will manage to discuss any more bills. Thus the bankruptcy amendment may now be passed only after the June general election.
