The near-six-year operation by soldiers of the Slovak armed forces in the Afghan province of Uruzgan came to an end on July 14 when they left from Tarin Kowt base.
Slovak service personnel had been training Afghan soldiers and then Afghan instructors there. Since 2011 they were in direct command of a team including Australian and US soldiers, the Sme daily wrote on July 18.
A ten-member consultancy team, CSS MAT, the last representatives of the Slovak army in the province, left from Tarin Kowt base after their seven-month tour concluded. “After having fulfilled the tasks connected with the withdrawal of our soldiers from Uruzgan province, and after a journey through the city of Kandahar, members of the military consultancy team will return home in the upcoming days,” armed forces spokesman Milan Vanga told SITA.
