The Slovak Antitrust Office (PMÚ) has cleared the acquisition of DIGI Slovakia by the incumbent telecom operator Slovak Telekom, which wants to strengthen its position in the sector of television services. Several months of negotiations between Slovak Telekom and Romanian RCS & RDS consortium over the takeover of 100-percent shares of DIGI Slovakia ended on May 14 by signing an acquisition contract.
“Slovak Telekom plans to incorporate DIGI Slovakia into its group as another important member, similarly as the companies Zoznam, Zoznam Mobile, or PosAm,” Slovak Telekom spokesperson Michal Korec informed the SITA newswire. “After the acquisition, DIGI Slovakia will act as a new subsidiary and a separate legal entity. The company will inform about the date of incorporation of DIGI Slovakia into the Slovak Telekom Group and other moves arising from the acquisition the next few weeks,” added Korec.
DIGI Slovakia has been operating here since 2006. It provides cable television and Internet access services in 10 Slovak cities. The majority of its customers use TV reception via satellite. Currently, more than 270,000 customers use its TV and Internet services.
