PRESIDENT of the European Commission (EC), Jose Manuel Barroso, appointed Slovak bio-ethicist Jozef Glasa a member of the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies, the TASR news agency wrote.
This group is an important consultative body, which advises the EC on ethical aspects of science and new technologies with respect to the preparation and implementation of European legislation.
Along with Glasa, Barroso appointed 15 other new members to the group on October 24 due to their experience.
All are top experts in the fields of biology, genetics, computer science, law, philosophy and theology from throughout Europe.
According to the EC report, one of the issues the group will address is stem cell research.
