Slovak unemployment rate at 11.36 percent in December

ACCORDING to official figures published by the Central Office for Labour, Social Affairs and the Family (ÚPSVR) on January 17, unemployment in Slovakia in December 2005 stood at 11.36 percent of those available for work.

This represents a month-on-month increase of 0.5 percent, but a year-on-year fall of 1.72 percent, the TASR news wire reported.

The number of unemployed immediately available for work in December was 293,801, up by 12,866 month-on-month, but down by 48,493 year-on-year.

Slovakia publishes more than one set of figures for unemployment. The overall number of registered unemployed in December was 333,834, which represents a rate of 12.9 percent.
