Slovakia’s unemployment rate rose to a five-year high of 12.97 percent in February 2010, the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Centre informed the ČTK newswire on March 19.
Unemployment rose for the third consecutive month, though only slightly in month-on-month terms, by 0.08 percentage points. However, in year-on-year terms, it rose by 3.25 percentage points.
The Labour Centre described the job market as “already stabilising”, as quoted on the website of the Sme daily. The unemployment rate in Slovakia is also reported by the Slovak Statistics Office, though it uses a different method, based on a selective survey. According its latest data, the unemployment rate in the final quarter of last year increased to 13.9 percent. ČTK│Sme.sk
