SLOVAK universities are of bad quality, particularly in the humanities and social science disciplines, according to an evaluation from the Academic Ranking and Ratings Agency (ARRA), the daily SME reported.
According to ARRA Slovak universities in general lack scientific researchers and are isolated from the outside world. ARRA evaluated 19 public universities in Slovakia and around 100 of their faculties. The St Cyril and Method University in Trnava and Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica ranked among the worst.
ARRA stated that the low quality of the Slovak universities is also reflected in the fact that there are very few foreign students and only around 1,100 of the 150,000 Slovak university students were officially sent to study stays aboard.
According to Ferdinand Devínsky, who founded ARRA, the problem of Slovak universities cannot only be blamed on only a lack of finance, but also on the quality of the management of some universities.
