SEVERAL Slovak VIPs have expressed their disgust over the conduct of the judges who filed wage discrimination complaints against the state.
“They are suing because the high salaries they get from the state are lower than the salaries of their colleagues who accepted the burden of positions at the Special Court,” the official statement reads, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “In their conduct, we do not see proof of the judges’ striving for justice, but rather an expression of envy, and therefore we see this as immoral.”
The statement was signed by physicist Vladimír Bužek, historian Roman Holec, biologist Ladislav Kováč, movie director Dušan Trančík, writer Pavol Vilikovský and lawyer Katarína Závacká.
They also wrote that, by filing the complaints, the judges have shown how they view the law.
“They have given envy the status of a civil right and proclaimed that it is a virtue,” they wrote, adding that European culture has been built on the principle that only the best of the best should become judges and that they should be the example of courage and morality.
“The law and morality are indivisible – with the decay of morals the legal system goes down the drain,” SITA quoted the letter. “The Slovak Republic is in a very bad condition when most of its judges aren’t ashamed of displaying their moral incompetence, not only in front of their fellow citizens, but also in front of the whole world.”
