Two mothers from Syria and their children will come to Slovakia from Greece within the relocation programme in the coming days.
Originally, three women were to arrive, but the last one did not have the necessary documents, so she cannot be part of the scheme, said Interior Ministry’s spokesperson Ivan Netík.
The two women and their children will be first placed in a refugee facility in Humenné (Prešov Region). They will continue in further integration after obtaining asylum, the SITA newswire reported.
Slovakia promised last year that aside from the resettlement scheme, within which it accepted 25 Assyrian families from Iraq, it will take refugees also within the relocation programme. The country will gradually receive a total of 100 people, with 40 from Greece and 60 from Italy.
The first Syrian woman and her two children have already been granted asylum. She has already been moved from Humenné and continues in the integration process, Netík added for SITA.
The ministry’s mediation groups work with refugees directly in camps and look for people suitable for relocation. One of the conditions is that these people want to come to Slovakia. They also need identity documents, SITA wrote.
