SLOVAKIA will dispatch humanitarian aid to Romania to help the country cope with its unsettled situation following devastating floods in the southeast of the country.
Romania called for international assistance on Saturday. The civil protection department of the Slovak Interior Ministry is currently preparing supplies of electricity generators, clothing, blankets, and medication requested by Romania, the SITA news wire wrote.
According to the Slovak Interior Ministry, humanitarian aid should be on its way next week, after approval by the Romanian government.
Floods in southeast Romania killed 23 people and left more than 80 villages cut off electricity. The Vrancea region is the most affected with 14 fatalities.
Huge damage was caused to the Romanian agricultural sector, with 94,000 hectares of land ravaged. Romania has already started trying to clear the floods' aftermath.
Water levels dropped after a sunny weekend, weather forecasts however predict a new wave of downpours in the next few days.
