Slovakia was elected as a member of UNESCO's Executive Board for the
2009-13 period at a session of the UNESCO's 35th General Conference in Paris on Wednesday, October 14, spokesman for the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry Peter Stano told the TASR newswire.
The 58-strong UNESCO Executive Board is the organisation's decision-making body that represents UNESCO's 193 member countries between sessions of the General Conference.
Slovakia aims to contribute to the fulfilment of priorities of the Slovak Government in the development of a knowledge-based society, as well as in the areas of education, research and development, support of cultural diversity and other priority areas of UNESCO, said Stano. TASR
