SIXTEEN percent of Slovaks do not know what the internet is and 19 percent are PC illiterate, the latest report of the European Commission states.
In a list of the EU candidate countries, only Bulgarians, Romanians, and Poles posted worse figures. Only four percent of Czechs said they were unfamiliar with the internet, and 16 percent said they were unable to work with a computer.
The cost of computers and internet connections is the main reason Slovakia lags behind, says the report.
According to the report, 38 percent of Slovaks own a computer, and only 13 percent have an internet connection. The number of computers and internet users in Slovakia is rising, although still at a slow pace, the TASR news wire wrote.
