The Slovak Republic joined other countries in commemorating the 10th anniversary of 9/11 attacks on targets in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. According to the Ministry of the Foreign Affairs, the attack on the US represented an attack against Western civilisation, its values and way of life, the ministry wrote on its website.
The ministry also reminded that over the past 10 years the US, together with its allies including Slovakia, and the whole international community has tried to succeed in eliminating the threat of terrorism and violent extremism. Representatives of the ministry stressed that there is a need to continue using and improving gained experiences in preventing inhuman acts which have the goal of undermining basic principles of freedom and democracy.
The ministry informed that Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mikuláš Dzurinda, sent a letter a letter to US State Secretary Hillary Clinton in which he pointed out that Slovakia will never forget the terrorist attacks on the US and its victims but it will remember the big stories of bravery and humanity. He assured her that Slovakia will remain a responsible and close ally of the US and that it respects a very good level of cooperation between both countries.
