THE FOREIGN Affairs Ministry is considering opening new Slovak Embassies in Vilnius (Lithuania), Tallinn (Estonia) and Luxembourg this year, according to a report on the orientation of Slovak Foreign Policy for 2006, recently approved by the government, the TASR news agency reported.
In addition, the ministry plans to open a representative office in the Palestinian city of Ramallah, and send Slovak diplomats to Kishinev (Moldova), Tbilisi (Georgia) and Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), which is the headquarters of the African Union.
The ministry considers that an increase in Slovak diplomatic representation in these regions is necessary partly due to Slovakia becoming a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council on January 1, 2006.
The ministry also plans to open honorary consulates in two more US cities - Boston and Las Vegas.
Slovakia already has 55 embassies, one representative office, ten consulates and eight permanent missions abroad.
