As of late September 2010, Slovakia has drawn more than €82 million from the Bohunice International Decommissioning Support Fund (BIDSF) the Economy Ministry informed the SITA newswire. Slovakia has concluded twenty grant agreements relating to the shutdown of the two nuclear units in Jaslovské Bohunice to date.
More than €372 million has been allocated from the BIDSF for this purpose the ministry said, adding that Slovakia will draw more than €11 million from the fund this year for twelve projects. Since the funding began in 2004, Slovakia drew down the biggest sum last year, nearly €21 million, which financed fifteen projects.
The European Union and several EU states established the BIDSF fund which is entrusted to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for administration. The money from the fund is withdrawn on the basis of a Framework Agreement between the Slovak Economy Ministry and the EBRD signed in 2001. The fund provides money for partial coverage of costs paid by Slovakia for the early shutdown of the V1 nuclear power plant.
