Prices of motor fuels are higher in Slovakia compared to neighbouring EU-member countries (Austria, Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic), according to data issued by EUROSTAT covering the period up to July 20, the TASR newswire reported on July 24.
One litre of 95-octane petrol costs an average of €1.167 in Slovakia, €1.056 in Poland, €1.063 in Austria, €1.069 in Hungary and €1.105 in the Czech Republic, Dana Illesova from benzin.sk motor portal told TASR.
Slovaks also pay the most in the region for diesel fuel as the average price stood at €1.112 per litre. Czech drivers pay an average of €1.03 while the price in the other surrounding countries did not exceed €1 per litre.
According to EUROSTAT's data, Romanian drivers buy the cheapest petrol (€0.873 per litre), while Bulgarian drivers enjoy the lowest diesel prices (€0.803 per litre). TASR
