The European Commission has recommended the European Parliament, now in second reading of its 2002 budget draft, release 15 million euros in frozen pre-accession funds for Slovakia, judging the country has erected appropriate financial controls in the wake of a spring funds abuse scandal. Slovakia is due to receive a total of 106 million euros next year.
