Slovakia not to host US military bases

Slovakia will not host any US military units because the US armed forces in central and eastern Europe have been relocated, the daily Pravda wrote.

The units will operate in Poland, Bulgaria, and Romania.

"We have no plans to build permanent bases in Slovakia," said Barbara Zigli of the US Embassy's press department.

Jozef Banáš of the ruling coalition party the New Citizen’s Alliance said it is logical that the Americans are primarily interested in the Balkans.

According to Robert Kaliňák, the head of the parliamentary defence and security committee, Slovakia’s facilities and infrastructure probably do not fit the US’s needs.
