Slovakia opposes sovereignty for Abkhazia and South Ossetia

Slovakia opposes Russia’s recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as sovereign provinces, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ján Škoda told the TASR newswire on August 26.

Slovakia opposes Russia’s recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as sovereign provinces, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesperson Ján Škoda told the TASR newswire on August 26.

Škoda said that Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its current internationally recognised borders are the accepted solution to the current crisis in the Caucasus. This is the same position Slovakia took in the case of Serbia and Kosovo, Škoda pointed out.

The ministry also called on other members of the international community to uphold the principles of international law. An EU summit will be held on September 1 to discuss the issue. TASR
