Slovakia records another foreign trade surplus in April

Slovakia’s foreign trade account continued posting a surplus in April when it finished at €454.9 million, according to preliminary data from the Statistics Office. Compared with March 2012 the surplus increased by €65.7 million and in annual terms was €407.1 million higher, the SITA newswire reported on June 8.

For the first four months of this year, Slovakia’s foreign trade surplus reached a cumulative amount of €1.494 billion. Compared to the cumulative surplus from the end of April 2011, this is an increase by €842.2 million.

Total exports in April reached €5.011 billion, a year-on-year increase of 11.4 percent while imports of goods increased by 2.3 percent to €4.556 billion. During the first four months of 2012 total exports increased by 10 percent year-on-year to €19.758 billion and total imports by 5.5 percent year-on-year to €18.264 billion.
