In January 2005, there were 51,869 fast Internet connections in Slovakia, up from 8,275 just one year ago.

Despite the massive growth, Slovakia remains behind the rest of the EU in terms of fast connections per capita. Just 1 percent of Slovaks use broadband; the EU25 average is 8.6 percent and the EU15 is 10 percent.

Milan Herman, the former head of telecommunications at Slovakia’s Transport and Telecommunications Ministry, expects that the number of broadband Internet connections in Slovakia will double by the end of the year to 100,000.
