Foreign Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda announced on Tuesday, March 22, that €100,000 will be sent as Slovakia's share of humanitarian aid to Japan, which is suffering from the effects of a series of earthquakes, tsunamis and nuclear power plant accidents.
The sum will be received by the Japanese Red Cross, the TASR newswire reported, citing the Foreign Ministry press department. Slovakia is also offering Japan blankets, camp beds and sleeping bags, but these currently remain in a humanitarian storage facility in Slovakia. This is because the materials, worth €33,000, were too heavy to be taken on a plane heading to Japan. The package will be released when transport becomes available.
