Slovak President Ivan Gašparovič as well as Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák have conveyed their deep sympathies and sorrow over the tragic events related to the shooting at a primary school in Newtown, Connecticut, that claimed 28 lives, the TASR newswire reported on December 16.
“I received the information about the victims of the shooting ... with horror,” stated Gašparovič, as quoted by TASR, in the letter. “We [in Slovakia] share the grief and pain of the parents and relatives of the victims.”
Lajčák wrote in the telegraph addressed to his US counterpart Hillary Clinton that “Slovakia mourns with the US, [and] feels the deep grief and pain stemming from this tragedy”.
The massacre in Newtown resulted in the deaths of 28 people, including 20 children aged between 6-7 years old, the shooter’s mother and the culprit himself. Police have identified 20-year-old Adam Lanza as being responsible for the mass shooting, TASR wrote.
