Slovakia so far safe from floods

As city officials in Prague and Vienna began evacuating residents last night with flood waters rising, citizens of towns across central Slovakia watched helplessly as the Hron river continued to rise and threaten widespread flooding.

With more rain predicted through Wednesday, weather forecasters said the danger of floods in Slovakia would remain high until the end of the week. Water levels, particularly in the Danube river, have already reached the level seen in 1997 floods.
