Slovakia's progress in solving issues of racism, intolerance, and discrimination is still insufficient in many areas, says a report published by the Council of Europe's European Commission against Racism and Intolerance (ECRI).
According to the Strasbourg-based commission, racially motivated violence, including police brutality, remains a problem in Slovakia and often goes unpunished due to weak law enforcement, news wire TASR reported.
The country's Roma minority is severely disadvantaged in most areas of life, including housing, employment, and education, says the report.
The ECRI calls on the government to take additional measures to ensure more rigorous enforcement of legislation against racism, and to adopt an anti-discrimination law as soon as possible.
