No Slovak victims have been reported from the area hit by the deadliest earthquake in history and subsequent tsunami. A missing Slovak citizen was located in Thailand, Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Juraj Tomaga revealed December 28.
"At this time we are still making sure there are no other Slovak
citizens in the area. That means, as well as Thailand, Sri Lanka and other affected areas," Tomaga told the TASR news agency.
The Slovak embassy in India succeeded in locating two Slovaks in a remote part of Sri Lanka earlier on December 28. They had no documents or personal effects with them.
Meanwhile, the Slovak representative office has registered a group of
students that has been staying in Sri Lanka for more than six months and does not plan to return despite the disaster. They are in good condition.
According to the ministry's spokesman, the situation in the
disaster-hit area is still unclear. The spokesman has again urged Slovaks attempting to get information about their relatives in the area to contact the Ministry's consular department at (+421 2) 5978 3251, (+421 2) 5978 3242 and, after 4 p.m., (+421 2) 5978 22 11.
