SLOVAKIA supports Croatia's efforts to enter the EU, top Slovak officials agreed following a meeting on November 7.

The meeting was called in response to the surprise caused when PM Mikuláš said Dzurinda during his visit to Germany last week that the EU needed a break in enlargement, the Pravda daily reported.

At the meeting the PM explained to President Ivan Gašparovič and Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrušovský that the whole issue was a misunderstanding.

Drzuinda said that what he meant was that after the opening of talks with Croatia the EU would have other important topics to deal with.

"Our support for Croatia remains," reaffirmed the president.
