Slovakia has taken over the presidency of the Carpathian Convention and will stay at its helm until 2014, the SITA newswire reported.
"The Carpathian Convention is an international convention whose aim is to introduce sustainability of nature beyond borders of countries. The Carpathian Mountains should be barrier-free not only for people but also animals and biotopes," Environment Minister József Nagy told SITA on May 27 following the conference of signatories of the Convention on the Protection and Sustainable Development of the Carpathians.
The countries involved must continue to cooperate particularly in the fields of forestry and tourism, the minister told journalists.
