SLOVAK TEACHERS receive the lowest salaries among OECD countries, and the country is also providing less funding to its elementary and high schools per student, the daily SME wrote.
The situation is similarly critical at universities. However, in this category, Greece, Portugal and Mexico still falls behind Slovakia, according to a study by OECD, which shelters 30 countries.
The OECD survey results evoked a wave of criticism in Germany and the Czech Republic. In Slovakia, however, the study has evoked no sharp reactions.
Head of the Slovak Rectors' Conference Juraj Sinay said that there has been a certain fatigue within the Slovak education sector. The rectors have been demanding increases to the budget of the universities.
