FOREIGN Minister Miroslav Lajčák has decided to send humanitarian aid to Palestinians to relieve the deteriorating situation in the Gaza Strip, the ministry’s press department announced on August 11.
The financial contribution of €20,000 from the Slovak Aid programme will be provided via the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
“Slovakia appreciates the activities of the organisation, which currently serves as the main entity for providing humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip,” said the ministry’s press department, as quoted by the TASR newswire, adding that by providing the aid, Slovakia expresses solidarity with the suffering of the Palestinian people caused by the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The recent round of violence in the Gaza Strip that began on July 8 has claimed the lives of more than 1,900 Palestinians - mainly civilians - while around 10,000 Palestinians suffered injuries. Israel has reported the deaths of 67 people on its side, including three civilians.
