Slovakia will likely join the group of countries that produce vaccines against pandemic influenza. The State Material Reserves Administration plans to spend approximately €15 million to build a production facility for these vaccines, SITA newswire reported.
The construction of the virology pavilion should start in March of next year and be completed by June 2012, according to information from its investment plan submitted for Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).
The new facility should be situated in Šarišské Michaľany in the Sabinov district and create 44 jobs. The state wants to locate the production facility in the factory of Imuna Pharm, which has been producing antibiotics and other pharmaceuticals since 1953.
Each year, five million doses of pandemic flu vaccine should be produced in the new production facility, SITA wrote.
