Slovakia wants to rent a cargo railway terminal in Dobra, in the district of Trebišov, near the Slovak-Ukrainian border, to the Russian Railways Company, the SITA newswire wrote.
Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny and the President of the Russian Railways Company, Vladimir Yakunin, have signed a letter of intent on rent and shared use of the terminal in Dobra. The two bodies also signed a framework agreement on mutual cooperation and implementation of further railway projects.
Vážny and Yakunin went on to assess preparations for a project to construct a broad-gauge railway across Slovakia to Vienna, which it is estimated will cost Sk85 billion (€2.821 billion) to Sk100 billion (€3.319 billion).
Vážny pointed out that the capacity of the terminal in Dobra has been used at 7 to 10 percent. He expects that with the new joint venture, the current 1,000 or so containers handled annually should grow to around 26,000 to 30,000 containers annually, with the prospect of further growth. Moreover, he agreed with the president of the Russian Railways Company that higher container volume will result in lower rent. SITA
