SLOVAKIA will send 2,200 tonnes of old armaments and ammunition to Afghanistan, the cabinet decided yesterday. Thus, the country will get rid of outdated arms, which it would have to get rid of anyway, the SME daily reported.
Slovak Defence Minister Juraj Liška said that the shipment is a gift that should help in "building the Afghan national army". The export expenditures of the arms shipment will be covered by the US.
Security analyst Ivo Samson of the Slovak Foreign Policy Association, is not sure, however, whether "the Afghan armed forces are under such control that it can be excluded that the arms will not get into the wrong hands".
Other analysts confirmed the risk.
