Slovakia’s car manufacturers to halt production during Christmas holidays

Car manufacturers in Slovakia plan to halt their operations over the Christmas holidays, it was reported on Sunday, December 6. Volkswagen Slovakia in Bratislava will close its production halls on Christmas Eve, December 24. “The all-facility winter holiday will last for two weeks as usual,” VW spokesman Vladimír Machalík told the TASR newswire.

"KIA Motors Slovakia currently employs some 2,800 workers and we plan for the winter holidays to take place between December 24 and 31. They [the workers] will return to work on January 4, 2010,” said KIA spokesman Dušan Dvořák.

PSA Peugeot Citroen Slovakia in Trnava will halt production on December 22. “The pause will last until January 4, 2010 and during this time regular maintenance of technological factory devices will take place,” said Peugeot spokesman Peter Švec. TASR
