Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák will meet with the OSCE’s High Commissioner for Minorities, Knut Vollebaek, to discuss the proposed amendment to the Hungarian Law on Dual Citizenship, the TASR newswire was told by ministry spokesman Peter Stano on May 24.
At the meeting set for Tuesday, May 25 in The Hague, Lajčák will communicate the concerns of Slovakia about the approach adopted by Hungary and inform the commissioner about the steps to be taken by Slovakia.
“We expect Commissioner Vollebaek to take a stance on the Hungarian Law and recommend further action in the case, said Lajcak.
Slovakia wants to engage Budapest in dialogue, said Lajcak, as the Hungarian law will potentially have an impact in Slovakia. Slovakia's representatives voiced a number of reservations with respect to the controversial legislation as well as saying the taken by Hungary has violated the fundamental treaty between the two countries and international norms, including the OSCE Bolzano Recommendations on National Minorities in Inter-State Relations.
