Slovakia's gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 7.6 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2008, the Slovak Statistics Office announced in a preliminary estimate on August 14.
This means that the Slovak economy, which grew by 8.7 percent in the first quarter of 2008, slowed down as expected. According to the estimate, GDP worth Sk507 billion (€16.73 billion) was created in Slovakia in 2Q08. After adjustments to remove seasonal influences, GDP reached Sk382.5 billion (€12.70 billion), an increase of 8 percent year-on-year. In the first half of 2008, meanwhile, the Slovak economy grew by 8.1 percent. The Statistics Office will publish a revised estimate based on more precise data on September 3. TASR
