Slovakia on Saturday, November 29, night learned the winners of the popular Slávik (Nightingale) 2009 music contest, as voted by the public, the TASR newswire wrote.
The statue awarded in the 12th annual contest went to Zuzana Smatanová in the female singer category, Peter Cmorík in the male singer category and the rock band Desmod from Nitra in the group category. The same musicians also received Nightingales in 2006, 2007 and 2008.
The clear winner in the bands category is Desmod, which won the Nightingale for the fourth time in a row.
“For sure, I won't lie, when we got the Nightingale for the first time, it was the biggest surprise (at that time),” TASR was told by Desmod guitarist Richard Synčák.
Peter Cmorík, former SuperStar winner, also received the Slávik for the fourth time in a row. “It's great, it's something that you can merely dream of,” he said.
Zuzana Smatanová received the Nightingale for the fifth time in a row. “It's really the voice of the people and I'm happy that people have chosen me,” she said. TASR
