On August 30, the Sme daily printed a reaction to the analysis of the image of
Slovakia in foreign newspapers. The INEKO analysis shows that the number of negative stories about Slovakia in four selected world-known dailies increased by four times during the Robert Fico government's first year in office, when compared to the last year of the Mikuláš Dzurinda government.
The criticism concerned the lack of investments Slovakia is making into science, discrimination against Roma in schools, and the populist government. The daily concluded that foreign newspapers took the most interest in Slovakia during the Vladimír Mečiar government. Currently, Slovakia is very seldom seen on the political pages of British newspapers; current stories usually report on the country's economic situation. - SITA
