Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Miroslav Lajčák is taking part in a regular session of the EU foreign affairs ministers in Brussels on Monday, May 10, ministry spokesman Peter Stano told the TASR newswire.
The ministers are due to discuss preparations for the EU-Russia summit, the fight against pirates off the Horn of Africa, and details of the ‘Europe 2020’ growth and employment strategy.
“Preparations for the EU summit, which should take place in Rostov-on-Don around the turn of May and June, will be an important topic of the session. A follow-up to the discussion on relations between the EU and its strategic partners, with the focus on China and Japan, will be part of the agenda of the Foreign Affairs Council session,” added Stano.
Regarding the Europe 2020 strategy, which is due to be approved at the upcoming EU summit in June, individual EU member states are expected to submit proposals concerning their national aims. The EU’s stance on the G20 summit in Toronto is set to be discussed as well.
