Health Minister Ivan Uhliarik (KDH) announced that during the month of August he will look into the operation and management of institutions belonging to the health department, including university and faculty hospitals, the TASR newswire wrote.
The minister would not comment on possible personnel changes. However, after the cabinet session, he pointed out that for him expertise and ethics are most important.
“If a person in any leading post is a real expert, has balanced financial performance, and is morally clean, I do not have a reason to replace him,” the new minister told TASR, adding that it will be necessary to assess each person individually.
The minister said that state university and faculty hospitals have the biggest debts despite receiving higher payments from health insurance companies as well as state financial assistance. He said he also plans to examine the contracts signed by the ministry after the parliamentary elections in June and shortly before them.
He said his goal is to make public all the contracts where there is any suspicion of a lack of transparency. Uhliarik specified he wants to look into the purchase of 140 ambulances by the state Rescue and Transport Health Care Service Bratislava.
