The Office for Public Procurement (ÚVO) will operate without a chairperson until after the parliamentary elections next year in March and the incoming cabinet will choose the candidate, the SITA newswire wrote on November 10. The outgoing cabinet of Iveta Radičová failed to select a candidate before its collapse and it has now decided to leave the task to its successor.
"With regard to the shortened electoral term and the cabinet's limited mandate, we leave the solution to the cabinet that will be formed after the elections," the press department of the Government Office stated.
The Government Office failed to state any reasons why there had not been a public hearing for the three candidates – Michal Maťaš, Peter Kubovič and Zita Záborská – who were candidates in a second round.
The spokesperson for the procurement office, Branislav Zvara, stated that ÚVO continues to fulfil all its duties, tasks and competencies under the law without a chairperson. The top ÚVO post has been vacant for seven months.
