Slovak foreign trade ended in surplus in the penultimate month of last year. Compared with October, however, the surplus was lower. While in October the trade surplus was €513.5 million, in November it was €294.2 million, according to data from the Slovak Statistics Office released on Wednesday, January 9.
Exports in November 2012 reached €5.761 billion on annual growth of 7.3 percent, while total imports increased by 3.9 percent to €5.467 billion. Compared with November 2011, the trade surplus at the end of November last year was €188 million higher. Overall, for the first 11 months of 2012 compared to the same period of 2011, exports of goods from Slovakia were 10.8 percent higher, reaching €58.17 billion. Total imports rose by 6.4 percent to €54.756 billion. The trade surplus for the period from January to November was €3.414 billion, which was €2.396 billion more than in the same period of 2011.
Over the past three years, Slovakia's foreign trade has been consistently in surplus, and it has reported an annual surplus since 2009. Slovakia had a record trade surplus in 2011, when exports exceeded imports by almost €1 billion, according to revised data from the Statistics Office.
