The unemployment rate in Slovakia grew 0.10 percentage points in monthly terms in January, rising to 13.69 percent, the Central Office of Labour, Social Affairs and Family reported on February 21 and hit the highest level since June 2004 when it was 13.91 percent, the SITA newswire wrote.
Unemployment was 0.71 percentage points higher this January than last January with 369,948 jobseekers ready to immediately accept a job, up by 7,520 from December and by 23,752 since January 2011.
If those who are unemployed but not available to work are included the total is 408,874. If the unemployment rate was calculated from this number it would be 15.13 percent.
Six of Slovakia’s eight regions reported a higher jobless rate in January. The unemployment rate increased the most in Košice Region, by 0.37 percentage points, to 19.3 percent. The unemployment rates in Nitra and Bratislava regions fell slightly in January.
