The year-on-year inflation measured by the national methodology accelerated to 0.8 percent in the March 2010. A month ago, the indicator stagnated at the historical low level of 0.4 percent. The average y-o-y inflation for the first three months of this year thus represented 0.5 percent, the SITA newswire wrote.
On a monthly basis, consumer prices ticked up 0.1 percent in March, while in February they stagnated at January levels, informed the Statistics Office of the Slovak Republic. Prices of alcoholic drinks and tobacco rose 6.9 percent in annual terms. The health sector reported growth of 5.3 percent and prices in the education sector increased by 4.7 percent. The Statistics Office reported the deepest y-o-y decline in prices of furniture, home furnishings and common home maintenance by 4.2 percent. Prices of footwear and clothing were 2.2 percent lower from March 2009 and prices of food and soft drinks dropped 1.7 percent.
