Over the July 25-26 weekend, Czech and Slovak municipal and regional governments located along the shared border held traditional festivities of brotherhood and togetherness between the nations at Veľká Javorina, the tallest peak of the White Carpathian mountain range, the TASR newswire wrote.
A colourful and varied programme featuring folk, brass and country music from the Slovak regions of Trenčín and Trnava and the Czech Republic's South Moravia and Zlín attracted some 10,000 visitors.
Trenčín’s regional governor, Pavol Sedláček, told TASR that the festivities are annually organised by Czech and Slovak municipalities and financially supported by their regional governments. A non-parliamentary political party calling itself Moravané which is pushing for the separation of Moravia from the Czech Republic was also in attendance. Its members complain that in recent years – even though the Czech border section with Slovakia belongs to Moravia – during the event Moravia is increasingly left out. TASR
