Slovaks can vote on designs for euro coins

THE GENERAL public can decide on what the reverse sides of the euro coins in Slovakia will look like. From November 11, they can vote for one of ten motifs that the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS) has chosen from 36 proposals.

People can vote by phone call or SMS, the Hospodárske noviny business daily wrote.

Those who are interested to vote can find the ten motifs on the NBS website as well as in some Slovak newspapers. Among the ten motifs are: the Slovak Lorraine cross, the Celtic coin of Biatec, a Great Moravian cross, Bratislava castle, Devín castle, Spiš castle, Kriváň peak, the Kremnica Virgin Mary with little Jesus, the Virgin Mary with little Jesus from the main altar in Levoča, Cyril and Method.

Slovakia plans to introduce the euro in 2009. The NBS will make approximately 400 million coins in preparation for the launch of the euro in Slovakia.
