ALMOST three quarters of Slovakia’s population cannot imagine Christmas without television, according to the daily SME.
The majority of people want to see a " TV Christmas classic", such as a fairy tale. Sports or movies are not that popular and most people do not approve of violence in their Christmas TV schedule. The results came out of the survey conducted by the UPC company in 11 European countries.
According to media analyst Andrej Školkay, it was the socialist past that taught Slovaks to watch TV during Christmas. He said that at those times, the Communist regime tried to discourage people from attending church by putting on the best TV programmes.
