ALMOST 50 percent of Slovaks say they cannot save any money from their incomes. An MVK survey for the daily SME found that people spend an average 47 percent of their incomes on food and 33 percent on housing.
Only 3.7 percent of respondents said they had a reasonable standard of living and were not in need of a pay rise. More than 32 percent of respondents said they would need a rise of Sk5,000 (€127) to Sk10,000 (€255) to achieve a reasonable living standard.
Pavel Haulík of the MVK agency told the daily SME that although people do live under difficult conditions their perception is worse than reality.
The latest data from the Slovak Statistical Office shows that there is some optimism in the air, however. People expect that higher incomes are on the way.
