SLOVAKS are ready to spend more this year despite the fact that they expect Slovakia’s economic situation in general terms to deteriorate. This follows from a recent survey called Barometer Cetelem 2014, the TASR newswire reported.
While the inhabitants of most European countries believe that the economic crisis is receding, people in France, Italy, Poland and Slovakia are convinced that the general situation of their countries is worsening.
"Such a point of view is a reminder of how fragile the economic recovery in Europe is and how long it will take to fully recover, even though the worst is already behind us," the research report reads, as quoted by TASR.
Whilst last year Slovak consumers awarded a mark of 3.7 to the situation in their country, their evaluation dropped slightly to 3.6 this year. The latest mark is the worst ever since the Barometer Cetelem was first established in 2006.
Nevertheless, the survey showed that Slovaks are planning to boost their spending this year.
"Slovaks show their consumer appetite in order to catch up with the standards of western European households," according to Cetelem. Slovak consumers are entertaining plans to spend money, particularly on household appliances, renovation work on their homes, travel as well as leisure time activities.
